new releases

Toward the end of January, I released a digital album called "500" which marked the occasion of my 500th release as a musician/sound artist. The album consists of 500 samples and loops selected randomly from my 40+ year archive of audio recordings (note that a few people assumed that the collection represented one sample from each of the 500 releases but that is not correct. The collection is truly random and is taken from many sorts of recordings in my archive, including previously released material, unreleased material, live recordings, field recordings, samples I've created over the years, etc.). The album can be listened to as a work of audio art in the form of a "cut-up" (shuffle play recommended). The samples and loops, being released under a Creative Commons license, can also be used in new compositions, improvisations, etc.

So far, I have only been sharing this album with friends. It may be released to the general public at a later date. Or not.

Around the time I was releasing the "500" album, my friend tENTATIVELY a. cONVENIENCE released a video on Youtube called "Zeroworks Jubilee" consisting of footage from the 1992 Neoist event of the same name (my memory is that it was "Zerowork" not "Zeroworks" but who knows). Having participated in that event, I am included in tENT's video and the release dates of the "500" album and the "Zeroworks Jubilee" video are close enough that it is debatable which of the two releases is actually my 500th. Not that that matters to anyone but me.

Since the release of the "500" album and the "Zeroworks Jubilee" video, several more things have appeared which I would like to draw your attention to.

The digital album "Doff" by Neal Retke's h{EE}l project was released on Bandcamp, Jan. 29th. It includes material from Ambrose Pottie, James Ghost, CP McDill, Bim Prongs (yours truly), and {AN} EeL (Neal Retke).

On Feb. 2nd, the h{EE}l album "We'll See You In h{EE}l / The 2025 RPM Challenge" was released on Bandcamp. Participants include Pendro, Jim Benbow, Bim Prongs, RDKPL, Oonark Klaes, el_masmore, Scott Bazar, and {AN} EeL.

The duo album "Big Prongs" by Bim Prongs / {AN} EeL was released on Bandcamp, Feb. 14th. Neal constructed the album using samples from my "500" sample collection and his own material.

Another Neal Retke production, "Lividity" by h{EE}l was released today on Bandcamp and includes material from Scott Bazar, CViard, Stick Skiffy, CP McDill, Bim Prongs, Jo Bled, James Ghost, and {AN} EeL.

Several other albums are in the works, based partly on material from the "500" sample collection, but I won't announce any of them just yet.

And there is one non-audio-related item to add to the list. Ms. S.Higgins and I are included as visual artists in Beatriz Hausner's "Surrealism In Exile" section of Exile Quarterly, Volume 46, number 2.
