This one hits pretty hard for me. I am deeply saddened to hear that Paul Dutton has passed away today. In addition to his monumental presence in the arts in Canada and internationally, and his immeasurable importance within the creative scene here in Toronto, he was a dear friend to me and Sherri, and one of my most valued on-stage collaborators. I will greatly miss performing with him. Even more so will I miss seeing him and spending time in his company. I will miss bumping into him in the neighborhood and at events. I will miss our conversations that never went without some good-natured teasing (Paul always seemed surprised when I could dish it out as well as I could take it). I will even miss his curmudgeonly complaining, which could be hard to take at times but always showed just how much Paul actually cared about people, life, the arts, etc.
I'm having a hard time imagining life in this city without Paul. I suspect I'm not alone.
